The Central Board of Film Certification, the statutory body responsible for certifying films in India, has a set of guidelines to ensure that a film is suitable for public exhibition. As per the guidelines, the CBFC aims to prevent the glorification of anti-social activities, avoid excessive violence and, importantly, ensure that "human sensibilities are not offended by vulgarity, obscenity or depravity."

While the CBFC did not explicitly name the scene, industry reports strongly suggest the cut was made to the footage of Advani in a bikini during the song "Aavan Jaavan." The board reportedly directed the makers to "reduce sensual images by 50%," which translated to the nine-second reduction.

- Remove an "obscene" gesture: A two-second gesture made by a character was completely removed from the film.
Following these edits, "War 2" was granted a U/A 16+ certificate, with a final runtime of 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 44 seconds after the filmmakers voluntarily trimmed the film further to improve its pacing.
